Cyanine Dyes: Fine Structures in Their Absorption Spectra

چکیده

Absorption spectra were studied for two series of 3 cyanine dyes with varying length of conjugated hydrocarbon chains. Fine sturctures in absortpiton spectra were analyzed to determine its concentraion dependence as the concentraion of dyes were changed from 10 –8 M to 10 –4 M. In all 6 dyes studied, ratios of minor peaks to the major peak remained constant within the experiemntal error. These results indicate that the origin of the absorption fine structure is due to the electronic coupling, an intramolecular process, rather than the aggragates formation, an intermolecular process.

Abnormal fluorescence behavior of some cyanine dyes in a cyanine dye–TiO colloids system

The absorption and fluorescence spectra of five typical cyanine dyes adsorbed on the surface of TiO colloids have been 2 studied. The absorption spectra show that there are two kinds of isomer produced by intramolecular torsional motion of these dyes in their ground states. The fluorescence quantum yields of these dyes may be enhanced or reduced in the presence of TiO colloids. This behavior ca...

Excited state absorption: a key phenomenon for the improvement of biphotonic based optical limiting at telecommunication wavelengths.

Spectroscopic properties, two-photon absorption (TPA) and excited state absorption (ESA), of two organic cyanine dyes and of a ruthenium based organometallic cyanine are compared in order to rationalize their similar ns-optical power limiting (OPL) efficiency in the telecommunication wavelength range. The TPA contribution to the ns-OPL behavior is higher for both organic cyanines, while the mai...

Spectral fine tuning of cyanine dyes: electron donor-acceptor substituted analogues of thiazole orange.

The introduction of electron donor and acceptor groups at strategic locations on a fluorogenic cyanine dye allows fine-tuning of the absorption and emission spectra while preserving the ability of the dye to bind to biomolecular hosts such as double-stranded DNA and a single-chain antibody fragment originally selected for binding to the parent unsubstituted dye, thiazole orange (TO). The observ...

Near-infrared dichromic fluorescent carbocyanine molecules.

Central to major advances in biochemical assays, molecular sensor technologies, and molecular optical imaging are fluorescent materials that provide high detection sensitivity for molecular processes. In biological optical imaging, the low tissue autofluorescence and the deep penetration of light into the tissues observed at wavelengths between 650 and 900 nm allow the use of near-infrared (NIR...

Novel Aza-Substituted Benzothiazol and 1,2,4-Triazol Cyanine Dyes: Synthesis, Characterization and Properties

Series of novel dichromophoric cyanine dyes based on 2-aminobenzothiazoles and 3-amino-1,2,4 -triazole have been synthesized in high yields. All the dyes have been classified as disperse dyes. Besides their electronic spectroscopic properties, high dye-uptakes on polyester, excellent fastness properties, highly extinction coefficients, and broad solvatochromic effects have been observed in thes...
